3 BEST NONYA FOOD IN MELAKA | Find out where Nancy's Kitchen ranks!

3 of the best nonya food restaurants and our review of them

Melaka is known for Nonya food. And there are so many of them!

If you're on a short stay there, then focus on these 3.

1) Restaurant Samfu

Our hairstylist recommended us this place. Apparently locals love it!
This restaurant is situated at Mimosa Hotel
Address120, Jalan Bunga Raya, Kampung Jawa, 75100 Melaka, Malaysia
It is walking distance if you stay at The Shore Residences or Swiss Garden Hotel Melaka if you stay there. Also fairly near The Pines Hotel.
How was experience dining?
The fried chicken with spice is their specialty, can't remember the name of the dish of hand... Prices were quite expensive though.

Place is air-conditioned and pleasant =)

2) Restoran Nyonya Makko

In our recent visit, we went at around 12pm and it was already crowded.
I enjoyed the old school décor and furniture and it’s the first time JH sat in a rattan high chair. It adds to the authentic nyonya feel of the place.
Ayam Buah Keluak is great!
We tried salty duck soup (really salty!) and the house specialty tofu (which turned out so so only).
I also ordered a plate of Sambal petai for myself, which was a steal at only RM10.
The hubby didn’t want to take even a bite but I loved it!

Our boy polished off his rice with the soup and the tofu, which as all parents of toddlers know, there’s nothing more we can ask for.
Restoran Nyonya Makko
123 Taman Melaka Raya, Malacca / Melaka 75200
Lunch: 11.30am – 2.45pm
Dinner: 6pm – 9.30pm
*Closed on Tuesdays
Tel: +606 284 7037
Reservations recommended
In our opinion, this is the best Nyonya food near  Hatten Hotel/Equatorial Hotel area.
We’ve tried quite a few others in the Melaka raya zone.
Best part of it is its location, easily accessible even with dragging a reluctant toddler in tow.
It’s about 5minute walk from Hatten hotel or Hotel Equatorial.
Value for money: 4/5
Taste: 4/5
Comfort and service: 4/5

3) Nancy’s Kitchen – Perhaps the best Nonya food!

Nancy’s Kitchen is always amongst our top recommendations to friends and highly rated in Lonely Planet. If you only have time for 1 nonya food, just go for this!

We strongly suggest you make reservations if you are coming during the school holidays &/or travelling with a big group. It can get REALLY packed!

Two alternatives we suggest you order at Nancy's Kitchen

  1. Ayam buah keras instead of Ayam buah keluak. This curry base is made of candlenut and tastes just fantastic! So far, we haven’t seen any other nonya stalls offering this dish.
  2. Nonya Zhang (my mum’s favourite). I would da bao this back to Singapore as it can be kept refrigerated and ate a few days later,

Kuey Pie Ti is cheap and quite nice. Occasionally we would order.

Some of the dishes we also like: Otah, egg cincalok, 4 angle bean vegetable, Kang Kong, Chin chow drink

What else is fantastic

  1. There is a changing area for baby. How rare is that! Hence, we often use it as the first stop after the 3hr car ride from Singapore.
  2. Air condition with ample seating

Open hours and address

Please note that for Tuesday it is closed.

Address: 13, Jalan KL 3/8, Taman Kota Laksamana, 75200 Melaka, Malaysia
Nancy’s Kitchen is far from Melaka Raya and you will need a car to get there. It’s not that walkable also from Jonker where it used to be. But parking is ample outside.

Just take note of the crowd, good luck =)

Value for money: 5/5
Taste: 4.5/5
Comfort and service: 5/5
