Unique Christmas celebrations at Portuguese settlement Melaka!

Before we start, where is portuguese settlement?

It’s along the coast and about a 10min drive from Mahkota/Hatten city area. Parking is RM2 per entry.
If you are not driving, you should Grab over as its not too accessible by foot. That is unless you stay at The Settlement Hotel Melaka.

Christmas spirit abound at Portuguese settlement

Melaka was a Portuguese colony from year 1511–1641. Hence, there are monuments like “Christ Church Melaka” and “St Paul’s Church” in city centre.
Naturally,  there is a strong Christian presence till today.
We were going to portuguese settlement for dinner and were astounded by the newly erected Christ the Redeemer monument.
There was also a bustling christmas bazaar. We were surprised to see almost all the houses there getting into the christmas spirit with really fancy decorations.
It’s also the first time baby JH met Santa Claus, who took photos with everyone and offered him a sweet.

Christmas decorations aside, we usually make it a point to visit Portuguese settlement for dinner. Definitely at least once every trip for the scrumptious and cheap seafood there.

Check out our post on food there!

We suggest it as a dinner location as it is purely “alfresco” and can get quite hot.
